Winter solstice is a planetary-wide celebration of the longest night of
the year and the returning of the Light. Many religions have a Sun Child
born at this time of year.
We celebrate Solstice by going down into the darkness, getting quiet,
becoming empty, and then receiving the Light. It's a cleansing and
"re-igniting" of our souls. This is a participatory ritual which is
shared with stories, songs, sing-alongs, and meditations.
The
circle of women who filled the Gettysburg UUs' little
red church with winter solstice magic in 2010 and 2012 is honored to take our show on the road in 2013.
This ritual was created in the 1990's by two women who met as singers in
Anna Crusis Women's Choir in Philadelphia, and has since been performed
in many cities, where it has become a high point of the winter
holidays.
